It is not too rare to find patients who try to treat a corn or callus on their own and it never goes away or it comes back even bigger. There are several reasons for persistent calluses:
- Constant pressure – Your body builds up harden tissue to protect itself from constant rubbing. The solution may be as simple as using a pad, pumice stone, lotion or orthotics regularly.
- Wart – A wart is caused by a virus so it needs to be treated by targeting the virus. We use cantharidin (beetle enzyme) to get rid of the virus and therefore the callus.
- Other skin diseases – There are other skin diseases that mimic a callus. A simple biopsy can prove if there is an underlying issue causing the recurring callus.
