What is a Podiatrist?

Want to know who is best to treat your foot and ankle condition? Podiatrists are foot and ankle specialists who receive their Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) degree after 4 years of specialized medical school. Much like dentists (D.M.D./D.D.S.) or optometrists (O.D.), they are specializing early in their training.

D.P.M.s take medical classes alongside their allopathic (M.D.) and osteopathic (D.O.) colleagues and continue to be an essential part of a medical team. Upon graduating as a D.P.M. they move on to residency training that consists of 3 rigorous years of medical and surgical management treating all conditions of the foot and ankle. Additional sub-specialization can be obtained through fellowship training.

Podiatrists, therefore, have at least 7 years of devoted training in understanding the intricacies of the foot and ankle. There is no other degree that could compete with that.

Take a look at how the modern day podiatrist can help you with your foot and ankle problems.
