The start of 2019 should be exciting and invigorating. It marks the start of something new. Many people want to jumpstart the year with fitness resolutions only to find themselves quitting after only a few weeks. Why is that? Many people feel like it is a race against time to lose weight and obtain gains that are not true to their reality. Setting expectations that are too high can lead one to feel like they’ve already failed before even starting. So what one recommendation would I give to someone starting out with fitness?
#1 rule to sticking to your fitness resolution…start slow
Whatever it is you wish to do and become really good at, start slow. If you have never worked out a day in your life and are looking to start, why not start with the one thing you already do everyday? What is that you ask? It’s walking. This is something we all do everyday so why not elevate your game by increasing the duration and speeding up your pace?
Did you know that just walking for 40 minutes everyday can boost your mood, help you feel really good about yourself, improve your sleep, and help you lose weight? It does so much more but I won’t spill the beans and give it to you all right here. You’ll have to give it a try and discover the joys yourself. Sure, you may think this is so easy to do but it is also easy not to do and that is what most people end up not doing such an easy thing. But do it for yourself, for your partner, for your children so you can live a long, healthy and happy life. Just give it a try, habits take about 21 days to develop so give yourself a nudge and whisper to yourself…”I can do this” for 21 days straight. Hear that? You have been challenged and I know you can do it.
